First Friday: San Antonio Street Style

Excited, that Alan (pictured above) and his assistant finished our First Friday display window,
He recreated the Jive logo, designed by the LabKids, earlier this year. This is Part of our "spring cleaning" in the Fall. I think in seasons, As a Designer my focus now clearly is on Spring.
Though, as the cooler weather approaches us Here in Texas humidity free, I see more of a effort from the Fashionistas gearing up to showcase their best winter/fall attitude/looks . That means many "looks" and personal styles will be emerging from all parts of the city, SOON.
and WE at Jive Refried, want to document and share these San Antonio Street Styles, as a ART Form.
SO,
This First Friday in October we launch : First Friday: San Antonio Street Style From S.Alamo Street. the process will include several "spotters": Kristina Marie, a young stylish trendsetter just back from Europe., 3 Student Designers who are putting together their first line to be shown in the student designer showcase on November 17th @ the LOFT 120-2 , entitled: "Projection 2008"., will also participate in this photographic happening. Though the exciting part is that I will be sharing these images with my blog readers from this Project.
So Please , Make sure everyone signs a Model release form!!!

Celia Cruz:The inspiration

met with Arleen, From The Museo Alameda's Gift shop , Regalos, to collect work (inventory) that had not sold like, the skull pendant made of alloy with rhinestone eyes or the mother pendant with the Virgen de Guadalupe image, half of the original stock was gone, which was good considering I really did not know the clientle the Museum would attract, an expierment that i thought would end as the exhibits change and other artists are brought in.
Though,I was prepared to show Arleen some new pieces i had just finished , they were stowed away in my bag for the right moment to happen , It did.
Though it did not get the reaction i expected, she liked them, but felt they were a bit unfocused for the the Gift shop.
I always knew , most of my work tends to spread out and mostly stands as individual pieces than part of a collection.
Ms. Arleen had other ideas.
Celia Cruz: Retrospective
Opens September, 25.th @ the Smithsonian Museo Alameda
My new inspiration, at least i had something that would be my Focus.
I already knew her next question.
and I already knew my response,
With only days to go, I agreed to Recreating some classic Celia Cruz jewelry.
With book in hand I left the Alameda gift shop determined to create 15 pieces .
This is my regalo, To a woman who gave us vibrant music and
Herself a fearless fashion innovator,
that can still be seen today, at your local gay bar sunday night Drag show.
Inspiration can be found; keen eye ..

Projection 2008: Students Designers

Met today with all the aspiring students designers, that responded to my initial quest of finding emerging Designers. Having been asked to speak, several times to students enrolled at The International Academy of Design and Technology, I found this to be a hub of new promising raw talent. I recruited 3 assistants for my "Art of Fashion" Line that Debuted in july and they were thrown right in the middle of all the behind the scences action, having to react and adjust , making sure that all my 20 models were ready for the Runway, at the all day event, With a 9pm. showtime.
My crew consisted of Jose,Marisela& Megan., Same crew that then proceeded to spread the word about this upcoming student designer showcase, that I am Producing with the assistance of Loft 120-2 at Blue Star Art Complex and LabKids.
As OF Today, I have 7 committed Student Designers on board:
1. Irma Garcia
2. Liz Hernandez
3. Jose Huerta
4. Valerie Martinez
5. Megan Mendoza
6. Josue Pacheco
7. Marisela Salinas

This is their opportunity to expierence, create, inspire, and be passionate about their work.,
As they prepare themselves for the Fashion Industry.
My goal to give them a smarter sense of reality , a more hands-on approach technique,
Never discouraging the power of School and a solid education.
I left the meeting feeling Inspiried and knowing that the committed ones were there
to acheive a dream and this was just another outlet for their creativity.

As for me, Oct 20th &Oct 27th loom near, the two dates for my last two shows of the year.
2 separate lines. One is a Showcase just for Me, It is being produced by LABKIDS.
I must have been crazy to say YES
but it just seems right to me.
I just have to work a bit later and longer
knowing it is all part of the business.
